Ten Epic Dog friendly Hikes in Hong Kong

 

Want to hit up the trails with your pup this weekend? We’ve rounded up ten epic dog-friendly hiking trails in Hong Kong to keep those tails wagging.
 
Reminder: Be sure to consider both yours and your dogs fitness level when planning a hike, bring plenty of water, supplies and wear the appropriate gear. We recommend planning your route carefully, sticking to it and of course check the conditions are appropriate for hiking before you begin!
1. Needle Hill
Needle Hill is a steep peak with a flat summit located along the Maclehose Trail Section 7. It’s a challenging hike, guaranteed to keep you and your furry companion on your toes. Scenic views along the way include Shing Men Reservoir, needle hill itself and 360 views of new territories from the top!

2. Twin Peaks & Violet Hill
The Twin Peaks hike is known as a real thigh burner! This trail goes from Wong Tai Chung Reservoir to Stanley and includes two steep hills to climb up and down (one right after the other). This trail is certainly one of the most picturesque and rewarding hikes to conquer on Hong Kong Island and ends with a breathtaking view of Stanley.

3. Dragon’s Back
Dragon’s Back is one of the easiest and most popular dog-friendly hiking trails in Hong Kong. It’s super easy to access and a great way to enjoy incredible coastal views of Shek O and big wave way. There are a few trails to choose from so we recommend planning ahead and choosing a route best suited to yours and your dogs fitness level.

4. Thousand Island Hike
This hiking trail runs through one of the most photographed reservoirs in Hong Kong — the Tai Lam Chung Reservoir, or the “Thousand Islands Lake” in Tuen Mun. A mostly paved, easy route through the trail leads you to a breathtaking view point of numerous tiny islands scattered through the lake to form a incredible scene for you to enjoy with your four-legged friend.

5. Little Hawaii Trail
The Little Hawaii hiking trail is an easy, scenic waterfall hike to take with your furry friend. With a starting point in Po Lam, New Territories the hike is easily accessible by public transport. A relaxed trail with tropical vibes and breathtaking waterfall views.

6. Sir Cecil’s Ride Loop
Sir Cecil’s Ride is a loop trail in the area of Tai Tam, Southern. It is an easy, dog-friendly path to hike with your pet with spectacular scenery to admire from the viewpoint.

7. Sunset Peak Lantau
Sunset Peak is the third tallest peak in Hong Kong. It is a challenging yet popular hike due to its scenic views, particularly during autumn when silver grass sweeps across the landscape. There are multiple routes you can take to the top, but all of them require at least 6km of walking to reach the summit.

8. Pineapple Dam Nature
Pineapple Dam, a trail section running alongside Shing Mun Reservoir, a nice gentle adventure for both human out hound. Step it up a notch by exploring the whole loop around the reservoir, with plenty of scenic viewpoint and beautiful little picnic sites along the way. The reservoir is also home to wildlife and many hikers encounter monkeys throughout the trail, keep this in mind and take care exploring the trail with your furry pal.

9. Pak Tam Chung Nature Trail
For a beginner hike or more of a scenic stroll head to Pak Tam Chung, Sai Kung. There are multiple trails in the area so plan ahead and be sure to stick to your chosen trail.

10. High West
A moderate hike down to the thigh-burning steps, Hiking Mount High West with your furry friend is a rewarding trail to cover.  On a clear day you’ll get incredible views of Pok Fu Lam, Cybertport, West Kowloon and Kennedy Town.
